Japan is investing in the construction of a major gas pipeline in Alaska to export American energy resources to Asian countries, US President Donald Trump announced in an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
“Japan will help us build one of the world’s largest natural gas pipelines in Alaska to export American energy resources to our allies in Asia,” he wrote.
Last March, Trump announced that American partners, including South Korea and Japan, planned to invest trillions of dollars in building a gas pipeline in Alaska.
In February, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that his country was interested in stable supplies of American energy resources. He clarified that a new field was being developed in Alaska. For Japan to receive gas from there, a pipeline would need to be built, allowing the country to rely on stable supplies from a nearby source.
Earlier, Trump said that China’s share of US imports had reached its lowest level since 2001.
